Memory Eternal, Nelson

Memory Eternal, Nelson
with the love of my life

About Me

My photo
Hira Animfefte
United States
I graduated from an Orthodox Christian seminary in May 2009 with an M.Div. (Masters of Divinity). My thesis was on a homily by St Basil the Great called "Why God is not the cause of evil." On November 6th, 2009, around midnight, my aspiring fiance' and the love of my life, Nelson James, succumbed to sudden cardiac arrest. He was a professional violist, violin teacher, part-time seminarian, Rennaissance man, and the best man I ever knew. We were planning to marry. I am mourning his loss, trying to pick up the pieces, and figure out where to go from here. This blog has become my public grief journal. I have another one, written on paper in a notebook, the old fashioned way. This is where I am putting the poems and more public reflections. May the Lord have mercy on me, and give rest to the soul of his servant Nelson James, who is fallen asleep. I have now started a new blog, The Unwedded Widow, to recount my experience of grief. You can find it at http://unweddeddwidow.blogspot.com/.

Westley: "Of course you will. This is true love. Do you think this happens every day?"
-The Princess Bride

-Prince Humperdinck to Westley, just before rendering him 'mostly dead,' in The Princess Bride

Who said life was fair? Where is that written?
-The Grandfather to the Grandson, in The Princess Bride

Life IS pain, highness. Anyone who tells you differently is selling something.
-The Man in Black (Westley) to Princess Buttercup, in The Princess Bride

Day will fail me whilst making you see great wisdom in small things.
-St Basil the Great, Hexaemeron (homilies on the six days of creation)

Anything true said by men anywhere belongs to us Christians. -St Justin Martyr, Apologia

It is better for me to die for Christ than to be king over the ends of this earth...The pains of birth are upon me...Suffer me to receive the pure light; when I shall have arrived there, I shall become a human being.
-St Ignatius of Antioch, bishop/martyr

Pathein estin mathein, mathein estin pathein.
To learn is to suffer;to suffer is to learn.

It was not the old Adam who was a model for the new, but the new Adam for the old...the Savior first and alone showed to us the true human being, who is perfect...

The resurrectional life of Christ begins, this side of the grave, in the life of a continual dying to this world...as it stands opposed to God.
